How are you going to be tested at the end of this course?
This course about Slavery in the USA consists of 6 units/lessons. Each lesson represents one lesson week. During these upcoming six weeks you most likely have to work on the assignments individually, with a few exceptions.
You are going to work on homework assignments and send these to your teacher by email or via SOM. These assignments have to be done to show your understanding of both the topic about slavery and showing your development in reading, listening, speaking and writing skills. You have to form groups of four in Unit 1, (assignment 1.1) and must become an 'expert group' on a topic which is going to be discussed during these six lessons. As an expert group, you have to find new, additional information about this particular topic you and your fellow students have chosen.
You are going to be tested on two things at the end this course:
How to calculate your final grade?
All skills, except speaking, are tested in the two-hour timed test, which counts for 50% on your final grade. You can score 67 points in total on listening, reading, vocabulary, and grammar. You can score a 6 when you scored 70% of the text correct. The norm for these four skills is 4.
You can also score a grade for writing a formal letter, and for the presentation with your study group. You will have 3 marks in total.
Listening, reading, vocabulary, grammar mark x 2
Writing mark x 1
Presentation mark x 3

= mark : 6 = final mark
Below you will find the word list and the scoring rubric for both your presentation and your two-hour timed test on your English skills.

You are going to be tested on two things at the end this course:
- You are going to do a two-hour timed test which contains reading, listening, writing, vocabulary, and grammar like we discussed in the six units. This test will take place in the first week of April (testweek).
- You are going to give a group presentation which has to be filmed. This presentation is not only a way of testing your speaking abilities, but also a way for you to show your understanding of one of the topics that was discussed. Each student has to present for three minutes, so the total amount of time for your presentation should be at least 12 minutes with a maximum of 16 minutes. Your group presentation has to be handed in on USB.
