Harriet Tubman is one of the most famous Underground Railroad conductors ever. She was a runaway slave from Maryland who became known as the "Moses of her people." Think of Moses from the Bible, who led his people out of Egypt.
Harriet led hundreds of slaves to freedom along the Underground Railroad at great personal risk in ten years time . The Underground Railroad was a secret network of safe houses where runaway slaves could stay on their journey north to freedom. Harriet was never caught, which is something she was really proud of.
