Introduction to the course
We are going to dig into the history of slavery in the United States of America during the next six units. Each unit represents one lesson week including three or four assignments. All these units are divided into several themes all concerning slavery.
You have to form groups of four in Unit 1 (assignment 1.1) and have to become an 'expert group' about a topic which is going to be discussed during these six weeks. As an 'expert group' you have to find new information about this particular topic you and your fellow students have chosen.
During these upcoming seven weeks you have to work on homework assignments and send these to your teacher by email or hand them in through SOM. Make sure you put all the assignments into one document and send this to your teacher each Friday before 6 pm. Make sure you hand in this document on time because handing in the documents too late will also mean that you lose points on your final grade. Your teacher will take a look at your assignments and give you feedback along the way. The assignments have to be done to show your understanding of both the topic about slavery and show your development in reading, listening, grammar, vocabulary, speaking, and writing. Some assignments have to be done individually while other assignments require groupwork.
Each unit contains reflective questions. You and your study group have to discuss and reflect on these questions each week. You can use the forum tab on this website. Keep in mind that not participating on the forum means that you lose points on your final grade.
The seventh lesson will contain a test in the testweek in April. More information about this is to be found under the tab ‘Final Test’.
Finally, you can always get in touch with your teacher by sending him/her an email or by asking him/her for help in class.
Good luck with the course!
